Learn about IP Ratings!
Many products have IP Ratings – but what do those numbers mean? MSE Audio has created a handy chart that explains what they mean as well as a detailed explanation on the level of protection against liquids.
When searching for a product on the MSE website, the sidebar shows IP rating options that allow you to find the right speaker for your outdoor situation.
What does it take to make a speaker with water protection?
After a product is designed and prototyped, there is a rigorous process for determining its level of water Ingress Protection. First, MSE Audio's team of engineers tests the product in-house for an IPX5 and IPX6 rating. If the speaker fails in-house testing, our engineers go back to the drawing board to find ways to reinforce the speaker's protection against water ingress. The product is then re-tested with any modifications until it passes in-house testing.
Upon a successful test in MSE Audio's own headquarters, multiple final production units are sent to a third-party certification agency, where they are subjected to the same standard of tests that MSE performs. Only after we have certification from both our own engineers as well as a third-party testing agency do we declare a speaker as IP-rated.
